Design Inspiration: Soft Chic Luxe Bedroom

Inspiration

I’m 24 years old and single, so I don’t have to worry about making my bedroom mesh with a man’s tastes just yet – and I plan to take full advantage of that when our family moves into our new house. Want to hear about some of my ideas? Okay then. 🙂

Firstly, the theme… when I was brainstorming about my next room, I KNEW I wanted to make it feel glamorous and expensive (even if the actual budget for the decor is next to nothing) so I quickly decided on golds and metallic accents. Keeping the colors all light and soft will make the space feel larger, airy, and feminine. More on the colors I selected later.

Firstly I give you exhibit A, in which it is painfully obvious that I cannot draw. At all. But these doodle-sketches serves as a bare-bones view of what I am envisioning.

The room has two nice blank walls for placing furniture. One wall has a window on the right side, and the fourth wall has a long closet and then an alcove with the doorway.

Um yes, my crooked furniture drawings have achieved funhouse status…

The great thing is I already have many elements for this room. Namely:

  • Queen-size bed with a padded creamy leather headboard studded with rhinestones
  • Large white dresser with glass diamond knobs
  • White Billy bookcases from IKEA
  • Two silver lamps with crystal-trimmed linen shades
  • A pretty nightstand, 2 drawers – but it needs repainting

I also have a pink lamp that I plan to repaint, a too-large desk with not-enough storage that I think I need to replace (I need to see how it fits in the room first) and several mirrors and frames – plus a large piece of bound carpet I’m wondering if I can dye or paint a greek key design into.

Now for the inspiration!

So – BLUSH, SOFT PEACH, GLIMMER-GOLD and CREAM are the main players in this color scheme. Honestly, doesn’t this look like heaven?

I plan to incorporate these colors in some new pillows on my bed – I already have a cream-colored quilted bedspread as a perfect ‘blank canvas’.

DESIGN ELEMENTS:

A sparkly chandelier is a must!!! I’m determined to find one for a steal and either paint it white or update it in some fashion. Look past those busy shelves to that wall pattern – I want to do the wall behind the bed like that, with the other shelves just the warm latte color. Ruffled curtains at the window, and then I’m GOING to find an old student desk on craigslist or at a yard sale and refresh it with new paint and hardware… I’m just not sure what color yet, white or a blush or peach color.

{More Pictures: Source, Source, Source, Source, Source) – *hint* if you want to follow me on Pinterest, you’ll get to see all the great stuff I pin! 😉

LOVE it? Or does all the sweetness make you gag? I can’t wait to create this dreamy bedroom. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to moving day!

Blessings,

Julia

    1. HAHA – I think it actually may have been ME. I was editing my comment settings because they were set so that if someone already had an approved comment, their comment went straight to the blog. So I was like “Well, I’d better fix THAT”. 😀 Ha! Ugh I have had one of those days too! I think a hot shower and early bedtime is in order! 😉

  2. Hi! A couple years ago I purchased some of your jewelry at the GHEA convention and love it! I would like to purchase your e-book(s) on jewelry-making but could not find them. Are they still available, and if so, how do I purchase them? Thanks! Stephanie

    1. Hi Stephanie! They are available, although I don’t have my website for them anymore. 😀 Could you leave me another comment with your email address – I will not publish it on the blog – and I will contact you about them? Thanks for your interest! 😀

    1. Thanks Victoria! 🙂 Um no, I can’t draw, but I can “scribble”, which works now and then if you just need to get an idea on paper. 😉 Can’t wait to start creating my bedroom!
